How to Get More Customers for Your Nairobi Restaurant

Diners decide in stages. They might spot a dish on Instagram or TikTok, check reviews and photos on Google, and then message on WhatsApp to book or order. Your marketing should support each of these stages.

1. Win on Google Maps

Claim your Google Business Profile. Add your menu, opening hours, photos of dishes and the space, your exact location, and a WhatsApp or call button. Post updates about events and specials. Reply to every review, good or bad.

2. Make your food easy to see

Post short videos: a dish being plated, a chef at work, a busy Friday evening. Use natural light and film vertically. Show prices on your menu so people can plan.

3. Create content around "where to eat" searches

People search for things like "nyama choma in Kilimani" or "brunch in Karen." Create a page or post for your area, your signature dishes and occasions (birthdays, team lunches). Include your address and directions.

4. Take direct orders and bookings

Delivery apps bring customers, but they charge commission. Add a WhatsApp order and booking link everywhere, and offer a small reason to order direct, such as a free drink or a loyalty stamp.

5. Use local creators carefully

Invite small food creators in Nairobi for a tasting. Choose people whose audience matches your customers, agree on what will be posted, and ask them to disclose that it is a partnership.

6. Collect customer contacts

Ask permission to add regular customers to a WhatsApp broadcast list for weekly specials and events.

Quick checklist

  • Google Business Profile with menu, photos, and hours
  • Two to three short videos each week
  • A page for each area or occasion you want to rank for
  • WhatsApp order and booking link
  • A simple system to ask for reviews
